Chairman & Acting President, Guardian Manufacturing
Dan has served as Guardian’s Chairman of the Board for nine years. The company manufactures high end protective gloves for biological, chemical and electrical protection. He also provides support to Guardian from his holding company, PEI, and is personally assisting Guardian management with organization building, political matters and substantial new equipment acquisition.
Starting as a roustabout, Dan progressed over ten years to be in charge of all ARCO and EXXON multi-billion oil and gas facilities construction on the North Slope of Alaska. Dan also served as lead legislative staffer, Governor appointments to oversight commissions, State telecommunications representative to Congress and Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. Dan also founded a $60million construction company, developed commercial real estate and served six years as General Manager of an Alaska native corporation. Initially a mounted, wilderness patrolman for the US Forest Service, Dan was a Smokejumper, initially based in Oregon, and managed large fires in Alaska. Out of graduate school he participated in a Cummins Engine Company plant startup addressing the “blue color blues”.
Dan completed a BA focused on Economics and Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He also earned an MBA, as a Baker Scholar, from Harvard and served on major projects instructional panel sponsored by University of Texas. Dan’s daughters reside in Seattle and Alaska. When infrequently not working, he enjoys hiking, running, skiing and boating.
